School Psychology Internships
All students must complete an internship, which is typically done during their 3rd year in the program. The internship is a training experience, in which students are placed in field setting (e.g., a school) to gain supervised experience in providing a range of school psychological services. The intern shall work a minimum of 1200 clock hours (approximately 40 hours per week for 7 ½ months). If interns intend to become licensed (versus certified) school psychologists in Florida, they will need to work a minimum of 1500 clock hours (approximately 40 hours per week for 9 months).
While on internship, the student is expected to gain experience in a variety of professional activities, including but not limited to, behavioral and academic interventions, assessment (using both formal and informal measures), consultation, and opportunities for individualized professional development (e.g., attendance at conferences and district/school in-service programs). Interns will receive a minimum of 2 hours per week of face-to-face supervision by an onsite supervisor, who must be a state certified or licensed school psychologist. Additionally, all internship supervisors must have completed the Florida Clinical Educator Training Program.
