Career Counseling Internships
The internship in Career Counseling provides an opportunity to evaluate a student’s knowledge and skills in a controlled setting. The internship is seen as that point of training for integrating all previous training experiences by means of practical application in a real world setting.
The FSU Career Center, which may be thought of as a “teaching career center,” is the frequent site of career counseling internships. It may be possible for a portion of internship activities to become a “paid internship.” Career Counseling students have been completing internships in this setting since 1971 under the supervision of program faculty and Career Center staff. Because it is a comprehensive service center serving FSU students and the public, career counseling students have the opportunity to specialize in a variety of areas, e.g., employment, outreach programs, library, using varied skills, e.g., program development, teaching, supervising others, research. Internship projects often become an ongoing part of the services and programs of the FSU Career Center. Internship rotation assignments are possible in related areas, e.g., Student Disability Resource Center, Advising Center, Cooperative Education, Business or Engineering Placement Office.
Other internship placements can be arranged in high school and community college settings, vocational/technical education setting, or corrections settings, depending on a student’s professional goals and interests.
