Career Counseling Financial Aid
In addition to university-based financial aid programs, special graduate assistantship and scholarship programs are available for students in the Career Counseling program.
Assistantships:
A variety of graduate assistantships are available to students in Career Counseling. After being admitted to the degree program, students contact Mr. Darrin Carr in order to learn about procedures for becoming a Career Advisor (CA) in The Career Center at Florida State University. Additional information and an online application are available for downloading at http://www.career.fsu.edu/about/employment/advisors/. Upon successful completion of CA training, students can apply for quarter time (10 hours per week) graduate assistantships. These assistantships generate a tuition waiver that typically covers from 9-12 hours of tuition and fees. Other paid positions are available in various programs in the Career Center (e.g., working with employers and recruiters, conducting mock interviews, and teaching the career course). Research assistantship may also be available within the Center for the Study of Technology in Counseling & Career Development or working directly with departmental faculty members on grant funded research projects. In addition to these employment opportunities, other offices across the Division of Student affairs and the university (e.g., Dean of Students, Advising First in Undergraduate Studies, etc.) frequently hire graduate students. These positions may or may not provide tuition waivers. Over the past 10 years, all Career Counseling graduate students have been appointed as Career Advisors.
Scholarships:
Special scholarship funds to support Career Counseling students are also available through the Career Advisor Scholarship Program. Over $12,000 in scholarships are awarded annually to students with outstanding records in the career development area. Applications for this scholarship program are solicited in August each year.
Other scholarship programs are available through the University's Graduate School and the College of Education http://www.coe.fsu.edu/finaid.
Academic Common Market:
The Career Counseling program at FSU is listed in the Academic Common Market under the Counseling and Human Systems Degree, and students from 15 other southern states may qualify for instate tuition with this program.
