Who we are

The Human Services Center (HSC; Clinic) is a training and service facility operated by the Psychological Services in Education (PSE) Program at Florida State University.

Graduate students in rehabilitation counseling, mental health counseling, and doctoral students in the combined program in counseling psychology and school psychology provide counseling services as part of a mental health practicum experience in the HSC clinic.  Supervision is provided by the practicum instructor and an assigned advanced doctoral student. The Rehabilitation Counseling program is accredited by the Council on Rehabilitation Education (CORE), the Mental Health Counseling program is accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) and the Combined Program in Counseling Psychology and School Psychology is accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA).

Dr. Georgios Lampropoulos, Dr. Susan M. Smedema, Dr. Deborah J. Ebener, and Frances Prevatt are responsible for the operation of the clinic and establish operational policies and procedures.

What we do

The center offers outpatient mental health services at no cost while providing experience for graduate students in the Specialist Program in Mental Health Counseling and Rehabilitation Counseling.

We provide:

• individual counseling
• couples counseling
• parent training
• family counseling

We do NOT provide:

• emergency or walk-in appointments
• group therapy
• psychological evaluations
• competency evaluations
• psychiatric evaluations
• medication management
• child custody evaluations

Who we serve

The clinic provides counseling and related services, at no cost, to children, adolescents and adults in the Tallahassee community and surrounding areas, to students attending FSU and local colleges, and to FSU employees.
