Are there opportunities for supervised applied experiences?
M.S. Currently there are a few formal opportunities for students in their second year of the program for supervised applied experiences with FSU athletes. Students are more likely to be selected who demonstrate an extended theoretical and conceptual understanding of concepts within the field of sport and exercise psychology.
Ph.D. The Field Laboratory Internship in Sport Psychology is an intensive semester-long internship with a varsity sport team at Florida State University.
Are there opportunities for conducting research with Faculty?
Yes, faculty members are engaged in research projects leading to publication. Graduate students have opportunities to assist with research.
What are my chances of admittance?
All students must meet minimum requirements for admission (see program information, above). Other factors that increase likelihood of admission include research and work experience, demonstrated writing proficiency, and a commitment to advancing theory and research in the field of sport psychology.
What are the job opportunities for program graduates?
As a Track II program, FSU graduates are prepared to work in academic positions at the College/University level, in research institutes, and as coaching educators for College/University or sport organizations. In accordance with a research/practitioner model, the emphasis is on training students for faculty positions in Sport Psychology. Opportunities may include part-time consulting with amateur and professional athletes and teams and, on rare occasions, full-time consulting.
What is the faculty/student ratio?
2002-2003: Two faculty, 10 Doctoral students, 17 Master’s students
Will I be prepared for a Doctorate?
The M.S. program at FSU provides a solid foundation in sport psychology theory, some practice and research. Students are expected to develop strong research, writing, and critical thinking skills that will enable them to excel at the doctoral level.
What about financial aid, assistantships, & scholarships?
A limited number of Research (M.S. & Ph.D.) and Teaching assistantships (Ph.D. only) are available through the Educational Research Department.
