ADHD Coaching

What is an ADHD Coach?

ADHD coaches help individuals with Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder achieve their goals by developing skills and strategies to compensate for areas of functioning affected by ADHD. Unlike therapists or counselors, coaches do not explore underlying emotional issues. Rather, coaches assist clients in forming internal and external structures to focus priorities, create action plans, and achieve success.

What can I work on with an ADHD Coach?

Because individuals vary in their strengths and in their areas for improvement, each coach-client relationship is unique. Possible topics for ADHD coaching include (but are not limited to):

  • Time Management/Scheduling
  • Managing coursework and studying
  • Routines for taking medication
  • Paying attention in class
  • Handling money matters
  • Self esteem/Negative self-talk
  • Organization
  • Completing Projects
  • Waking up and staying up
  • Managing stress/anxiety
  • Doing household chores
  • Learning more about ADHD/Self advocacy

When/Where are coach-client meetings held?

The coach and client decide together on meeting times and places. Some coaches and clients choose to communicate primarily through emails and/or phone calls; others choose to include face-to-face meetings.

Who are FSU's ADHD Coaches?

FSU's ADHD Coaches are graduate students in School Psychology who are employed by Florida State University's Adult Learning Evaluation Center (ALEC) and supervised by a faculty member/licensed psychologist. ALEC also conducts ADHD evaluations and researches the effects of ADHD on college students.

What is the cost for ADHD Coaching?

The cost for ADHD Coaching is a flat fee of $200, to be paid at the start of services. This package is a two-month program, which includes weekly face-to-face meetings, emails, and/or phone calls. If additional contacts are needed at the end of two months, they will be provided at an additional cost of $20/hour. This may be covered under your medical insurance.
